‘Friends’ Book Tag

Dear fellow Babblers,

Oh heyyyyy y’all. Welcome to Delphine’s much overdue tag time! I’m writing this post completely and utterly jet lagged so bare with me if something doesn’t quite make sense. But then again, very little of what I ramble on about is really just a bunch of nonsensical mush pouring out of my queer imagination.

Anyways I tried to pick a tag that seemed doable and really rather simple – I’m a lazy whore, I know, deal with it or kiss a toad.

I was tagged some time ago (my memory is the size of a speckled dandelion) by Dani at Perspective of a Writer. I love this blogger. She’s always o active here and comments on posts, keeping up with just about everything in our growing bookish community. And then her posts are just on top of it – always staying up to date with ARCS, new releases, and not to mention thought-provoking discussions! So if you would puh-leese listen to Mademoiselle Delphine and give her sit a whirl I promise you will become one of her greatest toad. If not, I will officially kiss a slug – which basically means I’m more than 120% certain you’ll enjoy reading her stuff.

Rules:

Do the tag and tag….so complicated (bitchy sarcasm)

Rachel – A character whose wardrobe you want to steal…

Fashion. Yup I already love this tag. Fashion and you got me. Even ask my mother… she has trouble enough keeping track of my outfits and making sure I have enough closet space (*whoops*).

Okay so umm. I’m going to kinda cheat here and choose a movie – I told you I was a little munchkin beotch.

Red is my favorite color if you have not caught the hint from my page by now so can you guess where I’m headed here? If not you really need to get your nose out of the porno shows and over to some foreign classics…

Amélie from Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain. Sure, this movie was made almost twenty year ago on the hills of Montmartre but come on, you gotta admit that her style is completely and utterly elegant. So simple yet all together gaudy – in the best possible way, of course.

From her short bob to her red blouses and long shirts, this Parisian beauty shows us that less is, in fact, more.

Joey – A book that left you mind-blown…

Oh that’s an easy one. I just finished Girl in Pieces and whoa that was intense. Whoa. Whoa and more WHOA! This is just about the darkest Young Adult that I’ve read. Mental illness is my favorite type of young adult so believe me when I say that I’ve read many and nothing tops the morbid tone and expression as does Girl in Pieces.

From the very beginning this book just had me. There was no nonsense or romanticization of self-harm. Everything was real and raw and cut through my hear in a way that not even my own past problems has. I’m planning to write a review on it soon to share some of my own perceptions and experiences with mental illness so if you have not yet read the book and you’re interested in novels of self harm and suicide then please pick this one up soon!

Chandler – A book that made you laugh out loud…

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, the first of the trilogy in particular. This novel is just hilarious. I’m thinking especially of the scene when Lara Jean throws herself on Peter in the middle of the hallway of her high school. There, she plant the big, completely unexpected smooch on Peter’s lips! May sound kinda weird now, but once you place it into the context of the story then you’ll get what I mean when I say that this book has no purpose, but is one of the best Young Adult coming-of-age love stories that I’ve read to date.

Monica – A book that made you hungry…

I eat way too much so hungry is a foreign bacteria that my chub chub belly blocks. I eat like all day everyday so hungry just never seems to happen to me. I have a huge lack of willpower when it comes to what I eat. I have a serious issue with portion control. I just look at a cookie and there.. It’s done… 5 extra pounds to burn by the next day only to pig out all over again. Anyway a lot of books that I’ve been reading lately have had this almost strange fetish with food, and not in a book way… So it’s not that I don’t get some sort of craving books that include some sort of foodish vibe, but then again, I eat too much to ever be hungry.

I didn’t technically answer the question, did I? I mean since I like cookies can I just repeat my previous answer and say To All the Boys I’ve loved Before? Lara Jean is a cookie enthusiast and in Always and Forever, Lara Jean she goes all out with her determination to bake the very best chocolate chip cookie. This whole crazy obsession with backing that Lara Jean has is, I’m pretty sure, her coping mechanism for stress and being sad over her boyfriend, Peter. Well, have to cope somehow and, what better way to do it with a yummy catch of warm and chewy chocolate chip cookies?!

Ross – A book that gave you all the feels…

So many!! How to choose just one?
Like I said, I’ve been reading a lot of Young Adult about suicide and self harm so I’ve been getting the feels with almost every title I read. One that stands out however is Sad Girls from Lang Leav. A lot of readers who are familiar with Leav from her poetry may not like this book because it almost seems like it was written by a different author. The subject matter, sadness, follows her poetry but the writing is so, so different. This book is dialogue heavy but I loved it anyway. The title tells you all you need to know about tis book: Sad Girl. It provides a portrait of sad girls and their conflicts with their minds, souls, bodies. I’m usually very critical when it comes to bland writing which very little description. With this one though I was really okay with the lack of imagery. The premise and issues this book touched were thrilling and cruel. Yes, very cruel and very dark. So of course I got all the feels, how could I not?

          Phoebe – A quirky & enjoyable read…

I’d very much like a definition of the word quirky here, cause last time I checked it was character personalities and authorial voice which renders a book quirky, magnificent, awful – whatever.

So I’m just going to go with the last part, an “enjoyable read.” I pretty much enjoy close to everything that I read, but I won’t knock my skull out for the most enjoyable, every book has it’s own style and personality so I could never eve attempt to undermine the writer by comparing titles.

So something that I have read recently that I enjoyed was The Little Friend by Donna Tartt. I love the twelve-year-old protagonist, Harriet and all of the mischief she gets into. She attempts to solve the mystery of her little brother’s murder twelve years ago but runs into multiple obstacles along the way which lead to to trouble with the law. She is my inspiration, not because she basically breaks the law and actually gets away with it but her determination. She bikes in the blazing Mississippi heat to hunt for her brother’s murderer and risks getting murdered herself.

I found this more fun than thrilling, though the synopsis makes it appear the other way around. This book is kind of like a fusion of Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird and Tom from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I think that makes the book “quirky,” in a way given that it’s not every day a twelve year old attempts to solve a murder mystery!

So I’m done with the tag and I’m technically supposed to tag other bloggers but given that I haven’t been too active on here this past week (I’m in France, give me a break) I don’t feel that I should. But if you seen this post and it looks fun to you, by all means give it a go!

I’ll be writing a bit of a “life update” given that I’m going through a complete and utter lifestyle change, having moved from Los Angeles to the Burgundy region of France. Looking forward to that soon! Love you my lovelies! *smoochy mushy gushy kissy*

Yours Truly,
